When people envision the most dangerous jobs, it is likely that professions such as logging and construction work are the first to come to mind. However, it is also possible for office workers to sustain serious injury as well. 
 
Of course, working inside in a climate-controlled environment does not have as many dangers as a construction site might, but it is still possible to sustain injury. In fact, according to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, office workers are actually 2.5 times more likely to injure themselves after a fall as compared to workers in other verticals.

Why are falls so common? 

There are actually several fall hazards inside of an average office. One of the more common ways to fall is to trip over an open file drawer or cords that are stretching across the hallway. In older office buildings, carpet can sometimes crumple up in the corners or in common walkways, which also increases the risk of tripping and falling.

Another reason why falling is so common in an office building is that people often try to cut corners, like when workers stand on a chair to reach things high off the ground rather than going to get a proper stepladder. Standing on a chair often leads to falling off of said chair. 

How can I stay safe?
 
One of the smartest things to do is ensure that you are paying attention to where you are going. Noticing potential trip hazards can help you avoid a fall. Also, make sure that you always have the proper tools for the job. If something is high off the ground, a stepladder is much safer than a chair to stand on.
